Uniform At Buller High School we expect our students to wear the school uniform with pride. The Board of Trustees, Principal and Staff appreciate the co-operation and assistance of parents in maintaining a high standard of dress at school, which helps to raise self-esteem and generate a sense of pride in our pupils. The uniform and guidelines for wearing it are strictly adhered to and breaches of these are treated seriously.
Basic Uniform There has been a strong call from the senior students to make a greater distinction between the senior and junior uniforms and so we have added a blazer and school tie to the Yr 11-15 Girls uniform and a blazer, white shirt and school tie to the Yr 11-15 Boys uniform. If the blazer is worn it must be worn with a white shirt and school tie, and in the case of boys, with long grey trousers. Boys may wear a white shirt, but it must be with a tie. The white shirt and tie can also be worn with a vest. Note: Skirts should be knee length or below. The School Uniform List is at the bottom of the page
The following Rules apply to the wearing of the School Uniform:
The School Uniform must be worn correctly at all times. This includes times when a pupil is attending School, travelling to and from School, representing the School on official trips and other functions.
Any variation to the Uniform for an individual pupil, whether emergency or long-term, must have the approval of the Principal. Note: Temporary exemptions in an emergency will usually be granted by the Deputy/Assistant Principal (on behalf of the Principal) on request from a parent/caregiver providing that a note requesting exemption, clearly stating the reason and the length of time requested, is presented to the House Teacher before classes begin for the day.
The pupil must wear all available items of School Uniform, along with the exempted item(s). Jeans are not permitted. Because of the vast range available in stores, parents/caregivers should be extremely careful when purchasing shoes. The Code for shoes is designed to be as clear as possible without specifying brand names, but if in doubt, parents/caregivers should seek advice from the School before purchasing.
Additional clothing worn for extra warmth, must not be visible.
Jewellery is restricted to a watch and one pair of studs worn in the ears.
Makeup must be discreet and in neutral tones.
All items of clothing should be clearly named.
Physical Education & Sports
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT PUPILS CHANGE INTO APPROPRIATE CLOTHING FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The correct uniform for any Senior or Junior student in Physical Education is;

Note:Any pupil suffering from a condition that prevents participation in Physical Education must present a Medical Certificate and/or a note from their parent/caregiver requesting an exemption from physical activity, clearly explaining the reasons and the likely duration of the condition. The School may decline requests for an exemption if details are unsatisfactory and/or unsupported by a Medical Certificate.
It is also highly recommended that;-
Students bring appropriate footwear for their current unit of work. A uniform hat (plain black) be worn during outdoor activities. During colder months students are allowed to wear Buller High School sport team hoodies in Physical Education Showers are available and should be used after vigorous exercise Failure to present a note and no uniform will result in the class teacher following the Non-Uniform process shown below.
